Abstract :
The purpose of this study was to investigate the interactive effect of two types of dimension-oriented and task-oriented assessment center and type of exercises. In the first study three exercises of role playing, group discussion and commercial play and in the second study three exercises of role playing, case study and oral presentation were used. The first sample consisted of 20 managers of Isfahan Regional Electricity Company and the second sample included the same number of managers of Isfahan Refining and Distribution Company who were selected by in convenience method. Two-way analysis of variance was used to analyze the data. The results showed that in both studies the interactive effect was significant, which means that in a particular center with specific exercises appears better performance. In dimension-oriented diagnostic assessment center, group discussion is weaker than two role-playing and commercial play exercises (p <0.01), whereas in task-oriented diagnostic assessment center, commercial play is weaker than the role playing (p <0.01). Organizations are advised to use both types of assessment centers and all types of exercises during the diagnostic evaluation. However, the alignment of the exercises should be concentrated on the interactive aspect for the dimension-oriented assessment centers and on the diagnostic and exploratory aspects in the task-oriented assessment centers to improve performance.
